- Ned Hunter was a stable boy on night duty at King's Pyland on the night of the murder of John Straker and the disappearance of Silver Blaze (SILV 62).
- Edith Baxter brought him his supper around 9 p.m. (SILV 63).
- Fitzroy Simpson appeared, tried to bribe him for information, and is believed to have slipped powdered opium into the food (curried mutton) (SILV 120).
- Hunter ate the meal, became drugged into a "state of absolute stupor," and slept through the events of the night (SILV 110).
