Pompey
From The Arthur Conan Doyle Encyclopedia

Fictional character.
In the Sherlock Holmes stories
- Pompey was the pride of the local drag-hounds. No very great flier, but a staunch hound on a scent (MISS 459).
- Sherlock Holmes borrowed the dog after Cyril Overton's wire "Ask for Pompey from Jeremy Dixon, Trinity College" (MISS 429).
- Sherlock Holmes had already sprayed aniseed on Dr. Leslie Armstrong's brougham wheel so Pompey could follow the trail out of Cambridge, through a detour, to the lonely cottage where Godfrey Staunton was found (MISS 467).
