Description
- Young promising inspector from Scotland Yard in whose career Sherlock Holmes had several times shown a very practical interest (GOLD 31).
- An exceedingly alert man, about thirty years of age, in a quiet tweed suit, with the erect bearing of one used to official uniform.

He was in charge of the following murder cases:
- The Peter Carey murder (BLAC)
- The Sir Eustace Brackenstall murder (ABBE)
- The Willoughby Smith murder (GOLD)
Relationship with Holmes
- He sought Sherlock Holmes for the three cases above.
- He advised Cyril Overton to consult Sherlock Holmes (MISS).
