To the Editor of The Daily Mail.
Sir, — The agitation against the German waiter has surely gone to lengths which have done harm. In the hotel which I know best — the Metropole — men have been thrown out of employment who have been naturalised for many years and married English wives. In the case of one man his son is actually serving in the Army.
If the hotel companies, while acceding to the reasonable demand that foreign managers should not be allowed to take advantage of our liberal institutions by driving all Britishers out of the business, had none the less stood by their old servants, everyone would, I think, have understood and endorsed their attitude.
