Letter

My dear Smith

I may be too conservative but I am strongly of opinion that a man's personality & private opinions should be kept in the background. I should feel I was guilty of egotism & impertinence if I bothered the public with my likes and dislikes. I have been associated with The Strand so long that I would do anything I could for it, but this would rather be against my convictions.

With kindest regards
Yours very truly
A Conan Doyle.
