M.C.C. v. Derbyshire

The Western Daily Press (25 june 1902, p. 7)

DR. W. G. GRACE BATS WELL.

The Derbyshire eleven gave a disappointing display at Lord's yesterday, and in the and were well beaten. On the opening day an innings on each side was completed, and, holding as they did a lead of 60, Derbyshire were in a capital position. The wicket yesterday again helped the bowlers, but not so much as to account for the dismissal of Derbyshire a second time in an hour and three-quarters. Wright and Hulme played well, but the others offered a feeble resistance. Set 149 runs to win, the Marylebone eleven made light work of their task, obtaining the runs in two hours and ten minutes, and winning by six wickets. Grace, who went in first and took out his bat, gave a delightful display. He made no mistake, and hit a five and 6 fours. Crawford assisted Grace to put on 57 for the third wicket, and Lord Hawke, going in at 107, helped to knock off the remaining runs. Score:—
