Views of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle.

Below are further letters received on the subject of the tests of Rudi Schneider, the young Austrian psychical medium.

From Sir Arthur Conan Doyle.

To the Editor of the "Evening Standard."

Sir, — Some years ago Dr. Schrenk-Notzing invited one hundred representative men to his laboratory that they might observe and criticise the powers of one of the Schneider brothers.

Among this gathering were twenty professors of well-known Universities, including Geissen, Jena and Upsala. After the demonstration they signed a paper to the effect that though they had come as agnostics they were entirely satisfied as to the reality of the ectoplasmic phenomena. They may be described as abnormal or preternatural, but certainly not as supernatural.

On the face of such testimony as this the criticism of the doctor quoted in your columns does not impress one as being very valuable.

I think that Mr. Harry Price [honorary director of the National Laboratory of Psychical Research at South Kensington, S.W.] is doing excellent work by familiarising the public with facts which have been too lung concealed.
