The home team sustained a hollow defeat on Tuesday in this snatch at the U.S.C.C. Ground, Portsmouth, South Hants took the field, and Steele's first ball sent Caption Cooper back to the Pavilion; they had all been disposed of before luncheon for 65, and the visitors had made 38 without any loss. They eventually ran up a high three-figure score, though batting with but ten men. The score was as follows:—
