Hugh Laurie (born 11 june 1959) is a British actor, writer, director, composer, musician, producer and singer who played from 2004-2012 the character Dr. Gregory House in the TV series House M.D. This character is largely inspired from Sherlock Holmes, with which he shares many similarities. See sherlockian references on this show.

In 2018, he played Mycroft Holmes in the movie Holmes & Watson with Will Ferrell as Sherlock Holmes. However, he was not credited.
