Bayard

In Arthur Conan Doyle novels and short story, Bayard are different animals (dogs and horse).
The White Company (1891)
- Bayard was a dog hound. Hunters yelled : "Hyke-a-Bayard! Hyke-a-Pomers! Hyke-a-Lebryt!" (WHIT 1523). Meaning "Hie to him, Bayard!" (old English) or "After him, Bayard!" (modern English) — urging the dog named Bayard to press the chase.
In the Sherlock Holmes stories
Silver Blaze (1892)
- Bayard was a racehorse owned by Colonel Ross (SILV 88).
- Fitzroy Simpson said that at the weights Bayard could give Silver Blaze a hundred yards in five furlongs, Colonel Ross (SILV 88), but the Colonel scratched Bayard in favor of Silver Blaze for the Wessex Cup (SILV 478).
Sir Nigel (1905)
- Bayard was one of the faithful hounds in Tilford Manor, alongside another dog named Talbot (SIRN 623).
