In the Sherlock Holmes stories
- Enoch J. Drebber was an American Mormon and the dead man discovered at 3, Lauriston Gardens which started the affair (STUD 439).
- He was murdered by Jefferson Hope (STUD 1428), because he was instrumental in the murder of John Ferrier (STUD 2150), whose daughter, Lucy Ferrier, was forced to became his eighth wife (STUD 2310).
- He fled the vengeance of Jefferson Hope from America to London where he was eventually murdered by Hope (STUD 2310).
