Lucy was an American pioneer adopted by John Ferrier (STUD 1673).
- Lucy and John Ferrier were the only survivors of 21 pioneers in the Great Alkali Plain (STUD 1611), rescued by the Mormons (STUD 1613), which they embraced the faith.
- Years later, Brigham Young told Lucy to choose a Mormon husband within a month, either Joseph Stangerson or Enoch J. Drebber. But she was in love with a Gentile (non-Mormon) named Jefferson Hope. As the threats became more urgent, an escape was planned for the last day of the ultimatum. Unfortunately, the attempt failed. John Ferrier was killed and Lucy was forced to marry Enoch J. Drebber (STUD 1891).
- Jefferson Hope swore to devote his life to avenging her death (STUD 2244).
