In the Sherlock Holmes stories
- He abducted Paul Kratides (GREE 424), and imprisoned him to try to make Paul sign away property (GREE 425).
- He also abducted Mr. Melas because he needed an interpreter who spoke Greek to force communication with their prisoner, Paul Kratides (GREE 132).
- Harold Latimer and Wilson Kemp locked Paul Kratides in with burning charcoal fumes, provoking his death. Mr. Melas was also locked in that room, but survived (GREE 419).
- He fled Britain with Wilson Kemp and Sophy Kratides; months later, two Englishmen traveling with a woman were found stabbed in Buda-Pesth (Budapest). Police thought they killed each other, but Sherlock Holmes suspected Sophy Kratides took revenge (GREE 430).
