The Rivals of Sherlock Holmes

The Rivals of Sherlock Holmes is a British TV series of 26 episodes (2 seasons) produced by Thames Television, aired between 1971 and 1972 on the ITV network. 55 min. per episode.

The series is not sherlockian. The episodes features other detectives created at the same time than Sherlock Holmes and which met some success like : Professor Thorndyke (by R. Austin Freeman), Max Carrados (by Ernest Bramah), Horace Dorrington and Martin Hewitt (by Arthur Morrison), Professor Van Dusen (by Jacques Futrelle), Dixon Bruce (by L. T. Meade), Eugène Valmont (by Robert Barr), etc. Played by famous British actors : John Thaw, Peter Vaughan, Peter Barkworth, Douglas Wilmer, Roy Dotrice, Donald Sinden, Derek Jacobi, Donald Pleasance, Bernard Hepton, Judy Geeson, etc.
